SABW: 2019 Kickoff Party

To say that we’ve been anticipating San Antonio Beer Week with great eagerness would be an understatement. And it’s not just because we are SA Beer Week’s official media sponsor. Since we completed and released Issue 9 of SA Beer Magazine, we immediately shifted our focus to producing the official Event Guide for SA Beer Week.

And it goes beyond that still. We’ve been privy to all the planning for this year’s SA Beer Week since last year’s ended, including planning our own magazine events (but more on that to come—our coverage spans the entire week).

So we weren’t going to let a slight hiccup like TABC moving SABW’s kickoff party outside into the June heat rather than within the cool and cozy confines of Roadmap Brewing Co. dampen our mood. Even if this change resulted in a production delay for our Event Guide printing because there was a period where we didn’t know where the location for the kickoff party would be until TABC gave their approval. No, we only grew more eager with each mounting obstacle and passing day, and they reached a high point when we picked up our Event Guide from our printer and released it to San Antonio a week before SABW.

Our expectations were exceeded. Although it was definitely a hot one, we hardly heard a complaint about the heat. C’est la vie in Tejas. Instead, we saw a packed house—er, lot—enjoying offerings from 15 different San Antonio breweries all pouring from the trusty Blue Star truck and trailer, a virtually permanent fixture at SABW kickoffs. We saw familiar friends and faces, and even better, a whole lot of new ones. We saw camaraderie, revelry, and genuine fun, all to the live and nostalgic sounds of Ceasefire.

In short, we saw what a successful and sold-out kickoff party looks like, and it was the perfect start to an eventful week. So for all the looking forward we did to the kickoff, we now shift our anticipation to the rest of the week’s events—especially our own.
